Includes a series of ski jumps; with the longest being 114 meters, completed in 1914, it is the oldest continuously operating ski area in Colorado.
Originally part of a small game preserve known as Elk Park, it was renamed in 1917 to honor the Norwegian immigrant (Carl Howelsen) who established it.
