10th December 2014 - the empty crisp packet of life

I had to pop out to the post office parcel centre (sorting office to us UK-ites) to pick up my Chinese slippers tonight after work. I came home to this sight…the (almost) completely empty crisp packet. When I went out it was full, nay it was unopened!

It got me to thinking that for a long time now I’ve felt that I was late to the party – you know the thing when you turn up, everyone else is drunk, there is nothing left to eat or to drink and the floor is awash with spilled beer and cigarette stubs. How often has that happened to me, both metaphorically and really?

Now though, despite the symbolism of this photo, I’m starting to think that those days might be over for me. This party has been waiting to start. Last year when I was looking for a job after finishing my degree, my current job didn’t exist, either for me or for a predecessor. Not only that but the company wouldn’t have been in any position to think that employing me would have been a good idea. They weren’t ready for me. I like to think I would have been ready for them but I’m as sure as I can be that the reciprocal was not true.

I had to go away and kiss a load of frogs before finding the one that turned into my prince but I’m completely convinced that this was meant to be.

So the fact that I came home from town to an empty packet is symbolic of just that. DM ate all the crisps. My life is full of nourishment and flavour. It’s the first time I’ve been able to make that declaration for a long time.
