The highway goes all the way to the Gulf of Mexico (actually Vermilion and West Cote Blanche Bay)
Many camps and summer homes are located along this highway. Some are nothing more than run down campers going all the way to homes such as this.

All of these structures are subject to occasional flooding by tidal surges from Gulf hurricanes.
Notice the location of the air conditioning systems on a ledge of the second floor.
