more than 900 lanterns
illuminate the Chinese Garden (in Montreal) every
year during September, October and early November.
During Fall and Winter a “theme” is decided upon and
precise drawings are made for each lantern. These are
sent to artisans in the Shanghai region where they make
each lantern by hand. After completion the lanterns are
shipped to Montreal by sea, then rail and truck. In July,
electricians, carpenters, painters, plumbers, welders and
labourers, build supports, install wiring and hang them.
