"Why are you taking a picture of that?" is a question I sometimes get asked in various ways by passersby. In this case the concierge of a well-kept downtown Toronto apartment building came outside from behind his lobby desk to ask why I was so involved, with my tripod-mounted setup, in photographing an autumn plant arrangement in front of his building. After introducing myself I told him I was photographing it because it was there and it was beautiful. I then gave him a look though the camera's viewfinder and though he could not see the final processed result, he seemed to understand somewhat and a friendly conversation ensued with him inviting me to spend all the time I needed to take my pictures before returning indoors to his desk.

Canon EOS 5D, Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM Macro lens.
Lighting was direct sunlight modified with a hand held diffuser.

Hi Ken,
Security people can be nice. On one occasion I was in a part of London called Paddington basin. Not obvious to me it was private property. But when I told the security person I was just interested in the architecture he said the inside of the building was unoccupied, even better and invited me in. It resulted in one of my favourite images. Good shot.
