Perhaps the most impressive feature of the show (spoiler alert) is that the seating area rotates. The show begins with a man talking about tea, we’re then rotated to an ancient China town scene with a hundred beautiful ladies dressed in ancient costume adorning every entryway and balcony. We then move to an eerie scene of hundreds of dancers holding bamboo poles behind two actors in ancient costume dueling. The scene then transforms into a bamboo forest where one of the ancients seems to fly through the tops of the trees.
In short, the show involves one spectacular scene after another; and as you rotate you expect greater and more magical scenes. The “stage” utilizes not only the theater’s man-made structures but also the outdoor environment itself. At some points in the show, the mountains are lit by floodlights and colorful lights illuminate the river and the forest that borders the outdoor theater. Outdoor screens are used to create the illusion of running horses and a prince and princess coming together in the forest.
