Winter Is Here

Boulder, CO

I was out looking for birds to photograph, but it was too cold and bleak for any self-respecting bird to be flying, so I grabbed a shot of this. I thought the cyanotype filter and vignetting gave it a suitably bleak look. The ISO was so high, because I was using auto ISO with a high minimum speed to capture the (non-existent) birds. The 7DII does remarkably well at high ISO.

I prefer this new one, hands down.

Thanks guys. I did some quick and dirty NR in Lightroom on the original version. The cyanotype processing seemed to exacerbate the noise. I've now added a bit more in Topaz, and replaced the original here. I'll put the original version in pending for comparison. Let me know which you prefer.

Yes, I'd love to shoot like this at ISO 12800.That is the primary reason I would like this new camera, followed by the high burst capabilities. If this has no noise reduction, I'm even more impressed.

Who needs birds when you find this weed. Excellent processing and noise reduction for ISO 12800. Paul

Now this is a beautiful capture; and it does look cold with this treatment.
Re high ISO - did you use any noise reduction on this? I can see where a bit would help on the edges.
