decorative lanterns
have been used, by the Chinese since the Han Dynasty, to
illuminate festivities such as the “New Year Festival”, which
is also known as the Spring Festival and the New Year in the
Agricultural Calendar. Later (during the Sui Dynasty) they were
used during the “Moon Festival” also known as the Mid-Autumn
Festival, held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Han calendar.
