Banyoles. Vista des del Puig de Sant Martirià

The tradition of taking St. Martirià to the lake disappeared over a hundred years ago. The last procession was in 1878 and there are reports from 1614, when it was already a deeply rooted habit. However, before that such as 1427, Banyoles jurors had already asked permission to make a pilgrimage to the chapel of Mount St.Martirià calling for the stop of earthquakes. And sometimes, as in 1653, the relics were carried to the chapel of St. Mer
When suffering from droughts, floods, epidemics, or any other mishap in normal community life, they did some prayers to St. Martirià in the church of Sant Esteve de Banyoles.

This is a very special scene, Jose, with warm autumn colours and exotic plants. The big wooden cross gives a powerful influence on your shot. Nice composition. V
