For Emily

Franklin,TN

Main Street, Franklin

This night shot is the result of some time I spent last weekend doing some lower-light work. This is Main Street, in Sherri's home town. The building that is most imposing now houses Emmaline's, a women's boutique.
This photo is dedicated to Emily Phillips, original owner and founder of the boutique. The shop was once to the right, in a smaller space, around the corner. Now, larger, if you're a gal over size 9, well, maybe somewhere else would be a better shop.

Before she opened the shop, which had been her dream, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003.Her family and friends pulled together and helped get the shop open. Just days before the shop opened,Sherri and I did a procedure for Emily, so she could have access to the venous system for chemotherapy. She July, 2005, of metastatic breast cancer. The shop goes on in her memory. She left us before reaching her thirtieth birthday, I believe.

She was a beautiful young woman, and we both just fell for her immediately. In 30 years in medicine, few patients stand out as radiantly as Emily. Truly a sweet-natured girl.
Rest in peace, sweet Emily. God bless you.
