This shot looks west from the parking garage of the Renton IKEA store. This used to be a warehouse and the opening in the wall used to be a loading dock doorway. The building across the way is still a warehouse. In the lower third of the picture is the remnants of a railroad spur track, one of two that were once active---how long ago I don't know. The other spur is completely obliterated.
The last phase of warehouse duty for these buildings was under the ownership of The Boeing Company. When I worked for Boeing I once visited this building to confer with another Boeing employee, though the purpose of the conferring escapes me. I remember walking through the building and looking out a loading door at the tracks between the buildings. It could have been this very doorway. That must have been in the late 1980s or early 1990s. I don't know if the spurs were used by the railroad then.
Today the building is used by IKEA as a one-story parking garage. I had just parked the Green Weenie close to this spot so I could have a look outside.
