Allegory of Fame, 1675-1683

Gerard de Lairesse, 1641-1711

OIL ON CANVAS

Fame is represented holding a globe to symbolise her omnipresence. The statue in her hand
and the children in the foreground with the laurel crown and palm branch refer to Victory,
which results in Fame. On the right, a young Hercules symbolises Courage. The female figure
that hovers in the sky heralds Fame with her trumpet.
