“What do you want for dinner?” I asked. A list of possible options followed and DM selected Toad in the Hole. Does everyone in the world know what Toad is? If not, it’s basically a big dish full of sausages and herby batter that gets baked in the oven. The sausages are the toads! (Oh and a proviso in case anyone thinks they’ve caught us out eating meat, these sausages are veggie ones.)
I asked him if he’d like to make it so here he is sifting the flour to make the batter. The batter is now resting in the kitchen before step 2, which is to fry off the sausages, add the batter to the pan and shove the lot into a screamingly hot oven. After about 40 minutes it’ll be ready and will get eaten with braised red cabbage along with onion and red wine gravy. He doesn’t know it yet but he’s going to make the lot!
(I’ll score his efforts later.)
I'd say 8/10 - considering he's a total novice batter isn't easy and he nailed it well.
