The first of several wide streams of glacial ice I had to cross. This filled me with trepidation, because I didn't know whether it had any crevasses on it, and I didn't have my ice axe for helping me cross them, only my trekking poles, which are pretty useless on snow and ice. But it turned out it was moderately slushy that my lug soles gripped good enough. I just had to stamp my foot in it, one stamp and a time as I crossed each one.
