262 NST

What time is it?

In my world, it is 262 shots taken on the journey I call a Photo a Day-365, done via Nikon Standard Time. NST is the ability to freeze time forever, unless you hit the delete button or format your memory cards. There is also another time zone called CST (Canon Standard Time) but the folks who live over in that realm are really weird...

Why is this important one might ask? I PaD for me and I am tired of this year already, it's been a chore to go three straight years doing this without a break. What prompted this rant today is that I got notice from the fine folks at PBase which is where I post my photos that it's about time to renew. This simple notification in my news feed on PBase creates a whole wave of emotional excitement, dread and second guessing why I keep doing this. I have friends on here who have been going 4, 5 7 and some longer in the effort of taking a picture a day. I was inspired by a few guys years ago before I ever knew what f stops were or had a concept of the rule of thirds and using a external flash unit let alone putting it all together for a decent picture. Looking back at my pictures is my greatest reward for doing this day in and day out. Seeing times past, friends, family and moments of my life brings intense joy to me (and hopefully those in my life).

Three years into this effort and I haven't said all I need to say or taken some pictures on my photographic bucket list which leads me to need to continue this path I am walking with my camera. I have no idea where it leads or when it stops but I for now I gave PBase some more money to keep the lights on and will keep looking for the elusive PaD as I live here in Nikon Standard Time...

Ahem, if the Canon thing is a reference to me I shall remind you that I haven't even switched my 40D on since the Olympus OMD E-M1 entered my life. O.S.T! O.S.T! O.S.T!

I admire your dedication to getting a photo each and every day. I once aspired that that but then realised that with 4 hours of my day each day dedicated to commuting it's just not viable. So I don't beat myself up for keeping to a "Photo Every Day Possible" schedule which it would have been this year but for two workflow problems, one that pre-dates the Olympus, and one which came with it. I shall address those over on my own PAD once I get through trying to make lemonade out of the lemon that is Adobe Bridge's tagging system.

Anyway my point is... if you don't end up with 365 images at the end of any given year don't sweat it. The purpose is to motivate you to keep shooting and learning, not to punish yourself.

Me, I like PST (Panasonic Standard Time) I've been a member of Pbase for over 12 years and have had my Pad running since 2006 although in a fit of stupidity I deleted some of those post and later re-posted most of the photos but I lost all the blogs and comments. Keep that Pad going, we have lost a few good photographers over the years and I for one really appreciate your daily Pads! VOTE!

Good for you, David...
(btw - I have enough memory cards to build a raft)

NST Forever.... I started many years ago with SLR, bought all the do dads, and whiz bangs for the time. Sold it when I needed money. Now fast forward nearly 30 years.. I have 2 DSLRs now and wishing for yet another. You and Mike both know that feeling..lol. I enjoy watching both your journeys..and treasure even more your friendships.

Still learning...and probably always will, keep your Nikons charged and your powder dry gentleman.
