SMH

I am still sitting here wondering what hurricane went thru our house this morning. The storm in question is this person, my youngest daughter.
Picture day at school, specifically Catholic schools brings out the evil monster in these girls. I am sure this was repeated all over Lorain county at 6:17 AM today as they were arguing with their parents over what to wear. All I remember was a few weeks ago my wife and Sarah coming thru the door into our home with shopping bags of clothes and smiles. Comments of "Daddy, I got my picture day outfit for this year and it's so nice" made me a happy man. I dread picture day, it always morphs into a drama fueled Tsunami. I knew the storm was brewing last night when my wife and daughter were talking rather loudly at each other about what she was wearing for picture day? Ummmm, we bought you a outfit, that you picked out already. I know this as it was charged to my American Express card that I just paid off. You have clothes, yes? I stayed out if it knowing it would spin out of control if I added any of my comments to the already tense standoff. Modifications were made and agreed upon as the sun set last night between mother and daughter. Life was once again good.

As the sun rose today, a full category 3 storm was howling thru the upstairs bedroom and blew into the kitchen wearing a whole different outfit than last night? I am now aimlessly adrift as I watch these two forces of nature collide over clothes at 6:24 AM. Concessions were made and the winds died down to a gentle breeze.

Fast forward 10 minutes after I dropped her off at school and my cell phone is blowing up with text from my wife. Sarah was told she can't wear jeans for picture day at school. So, off goes my wife passing me as I head home as she heads back into the storm that is 12 year old fashion butting up against parochial school rules of you may wear this, but not this on picture day.

I am sitting here shaking my head and secretly smiling that I am a Dad and can just sometimes be an observer to this insanity. I am grateful I have a wife who deals with this kinda stuff. If it were up to me, she'd be wearing her school uniform. I pay good money in tuition and she should wear that uniform 5 days a week.

You realise that this had me scratching my head since down here "SMH" refers to "Sydney Morning Herald", the country's oldest newspaper. The connection eluded me until I found Shaking My Head on Acronym Finder.
I like the arrangement in this shot. The flowers behind her in particular almost seem like a halo on her shoulders (the yellow ones) and head (red ones). The composition is asynchronous and yet balanced; your young one and the two flower pots on the right are balanced by the other yellow pot and the hay bale on the left. All of those appear at the top, and are in turn balanced at the bottom by the barrel with the pink flowers and the step.
It's the sort of thing that people don't often consciously think about when they look at a shot but it's the difference between what "feels" right about a shot and what doesn't.
