The Golden Lady on Constitution Square in Luxembourg City was erected in 1923 in remembrance of Luxembourgers who died in the First World War. It is a gold-plated female figure on a 69 ft. tall stone obelisk. In 1940 the Nazis pulled the monument down, but after extensive restorations ending in 1984 it has returned it to its original appearance. Today it symbolizes the freedom of the Luxembourg, and it also honours Luxembourgers who served in World War II and the Korean War.
