Early August is a bit soon for larch trees to be showing autumn colours, I think the trees have been attacked by Phytothphora ramorum - a nasty disease that has caused much heartache in Wales (and other parts of the Western side of the UK). I've just checked the Forestry Commission's website, and there is indeed a recorded infection in that part of the world. It's the same fungal pathogen that has killed very many oak trees in the US; fortunately it doesn't affect oak in the UK.
