Ladybug, Ladybug Fly Away Home!

Ladybugs are such delightful little creatures! I think we all loved them as kids They seem like gentle, peaceful garden dwellers. Did you know that they are actually beetles? It seems many have been inspired to write verse about them.

Perhaps you learned this little verse as a kid (not exactly the way I learned it but very close):

Ladybug, Ladybug Fly Away Home Nursery Rhyme

Ladybug! Ladybug!
Fly away home.
Your house is on fire.
And your children all gone.

All except one,
And that's little Ann,
For she crept under
The frying pan.

A little verse about ladybugs that I found on the Internet:

A small speckled visitor
Wearing a crimson cape
Brighter than a cherry
Smaller than a grape
A polka-dotted someone
Walking on my wall
A black-hooded lady
In a scarlet shawl.

One day my rose bush was covered with aphids and one ladybug. The next day not one aphid was left. I thank the ladybug for saving my roses. It had a real feast.

They are so pretty, more common in Chile when I was a kid than they are here in north Fla.

Wonderful capture of this charming ladybug!
I'm familiar with the top verse; not the second. Both verses brought a smile to my face! :)

Super image, ladybugs are also voracious pest controllers. I had a mealy bug infestation on my orchids, solution suggested was to buys small order of ladybugs to eat the bugs.. now what was I to do with 1000 ladybugs flying around my house... seems they do that in greenhouses where they raise orchids.... still trying to get rid of the bugs!

Simple yet effective. In the UK we call them Ladybirds, in Norfolk we call them Bishy barney bees. probably after Bishop Barnabus.
