1964 1/2 Pre-Production Mustang Shelby G.T.350

Saratoga Automobile Museum - Saratoga Springs, New York

"Mustang at 50: An American Icon": June 14-Nobemeber 2, 2014.
Ford retained a reluctant Carroll Shelby to create a Mustang for competition. To race in 1965 the SCCS-Trans-Am rules required at least 100 street-legal GT 350s to be available to customers in 1964. The street model has a 289 High Performance V8 and four barrel Holley carburetor to produce 306 horsepower, an upgraded suspension and brakes, 15 inch wheels, and a functional hood scoop. There was no rear seat. All were Wimbledon White fastbacks with blue side stripes, with an option for wide, over the top “LeMans” stripes that became a Shelby Mustang signature. The GT350 set the direction for five decades of performance Mustangs. Source: Paraphrased from museum sign.
