Not A Magpie

This is clearly not a magpie but at least she's got feathers.
There's a family of magpies living in some trees a short distance up the road.
I heard them chattering loudly yesterday evening and when I looked out the window earlier, I saw at least five of them in the field with our neighbours' hens.
I rushed out with my camera but they didn't hang around to have their photo taken so I had to settle for a hen instead.

The maggies probably saw the deadly big cat hunter out in the yard. The chook is probably prepared to PRETEND that she's a magpie if it means avoiding an invitation to a roast dinner. As the special guest star. I like the DOF on this; not just the background (which is obvious) but also the way that the feathers on the neck are getting a hint of softness as well, which helps pull the focus back onto the eye. 270mm at f/5.6 can be useful for that sort of thing not that I have anything with that reach. (Yet; and even then it'll be 300mm equivalent only when the 40-150 f/2.8 for the E-M1 comes out next month. I can't wait. My credit card can, though.)
