Collared Plover

near Hargill, TX

This is an extremely rare bird in the U.S. It is the only the second recorded occurrence. It was found (not by me) at a small pond near Hargill, TX on August 2, 2014. When I heard about it I immediately made plans to leave very early the next morning and drive the three hours to see the bird. I was not disappointed. There were over 50 others observing the bird when I arrived and more were arriving when I left.

Please excuse the poor quality. The bird was a LONG distance away and I used my biggest lens with a 2X teleconverter and still wound up with just a small speck of a bird. This is a HUGE crop.
