This 1907 neo-baroque counterpart to the Brandenburg Gate features a statue of Queen Sophia Charlotte of Hanover (1668 – 1705), who was the wife of Frederick I of Prussia and younger sister of George I of Great Britain.
It is located near the boundary between Charlottenburg & Tiergarten, on the wide thoroughfare Straße des 17. Juni, which is a western extension of the famous Unter den Linden. It is named after the June 17, 1953 workers' uprising against the communist DDR.
