We had a rare Northern Hemisphere sighting of Salvin's Albatross, formerly considered a subspecies of the Shy Albatross, on Alvaro Jaramillo's pelagic trip out of Half Moon Bay. Alvaro, who often sees Salvin's on pelagics off Chile, made the identification himself. The bird was very cooperative, appearing twice and landing on the water both times; the sighting was in San Mateo County waters. Here the bird interacts with Black-footed Albatrosses.
