Larcum Kendall, a British watchmaker,
was appointed, in 1765 as a member of the Board of Longitude.
The commissioners (of the Board of Longitude) asked Kendall
to make a copy of Harrison’s ‘H4’, which became known as ‘K1”.
This clock was taken (for testing), by Captain James Cook on his
second South Seas journey (aboard HMS Resolution, 1772-1775).
