The Rathaus was built in 1500. It was probably a two-storey building at that time: There was an open hall on the ground floor, and the council chambers above. Today’s Rathaus was built in 1685 by combining the old Rathaus with the Grossweibelhaus and the Archive Tower, which was built in 1585. The characteristic of the Thun Rathaus is the generous front façade with the linked windows above four flat segmented arched arcades on powerful pillars, as well as the massive pillars, as well as the high hipped roof.It is also worth mentioning the city arms of 1685 held by lions in the centre, with the arms of the treasurer Johannes Syder immediately below them.
