1960 Austin Nash Metropolatin

Haynes International Motor Museum, Sparkford, Yeovil, Somerset

HAYNES DESCRIPTION:

Intended only for export to the USA, the Metropolitan was designed by Nash and produced by Austin at its Longbridge Plant in Birmingham.
Launched in 1954, it has a 1200cc engine and a three speed gearbox with a column mounted gear shift. The independent front suspension was based on a slightly re-arranged A30 components.
The Hypoid rear axle was also from the A30 but the brakes were fully hydraulic.
The obvious transatlantic styling with its slab doors was relieved only by sculptured door tops, there being no conventional wheel arch cut outs.
Lack of sales in the USA led it to being marketed in the UK in right hand form as the Austin Metropolitan.

This is one of the best uses of selective color that I have seen. The main subject stands out and the effect dosen't overwhelm the image. Excellent work! V
