John Garth was a famous California artist. He did mosaic art pieces for a number of Safeway stores in California including the towns of Milbrae and San Francisco. The Safeway store on which this mural resided was to be torn down and replaced with a newer store. Everything was to be destroyed including the mosaic. Irate townspeople however, protested enough to have this mural saved. I chanced upon it when I went to the Ace Hardware store to procure some new pipe insulation for my tripod legs. I saw it on the opposite wall as I entered Ace. I inquired about its history which led me to several sites on John Garth. Here is a link to his biography:
