HAYNES DESCRIPTION:
The 103E was produced as an economy version of the successful Ford Anglia.
Fitted with the old Prefect engine, a side valve unit of 1172cc rated at 36BHP.
It cost only £419 and was claimed to be the worlds cheapest car in 1954.
A particularity were the windscreen wipers that were suction operated off the inlet manifold.
The result being that cruising downhill with the throttle closed, two wipers would dash backward and forward but when overtaking with the accelerator flat out to the floor, because of the lack of suction in the inlet manifold the wipers would virtually stop! Disconcerting to say the least!
