My first impression of Berlin! I felt a need to rush straight to this important symbol of Berlin and was appalled! Yes, tourists everywhere as was expected, but, temporary road blocks, plastic and wire fencing, trucks and rubbish hoppers, excavations and ugliness! Apparently a new U Bahn station is being built. The excavations and ugly upheaval extended right along Unter den Linden, another iconic area I wanted to see.
Adding to this ugly sight, a huge screen was being erected on the other side of this iconic area. A homage to the World Cup fever which gripped the city.
My euphoric mood slumped.
However, that is travel and that is how things change. There is so often always a work in progress.
