The aviation museum Mustang Mk IV is painted in the markings of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 442 Squadron, which flew the last Allied operational fighter mission of the entire European theatre of the Second World War - flying fighter cover for naval operations near the Channel Islands the day after VE Day.
This museum aircraft has the grille-type cowl breather vent panels more typical of U.S. P-51D-K aircraft. Any period photographs of 442 Squadron aircraft that I have seen indicate that they had louvred cowl breather vent panels.
