I need the clutch spring/s for a 1983 Honda Shadow 750 .... VT 750 C
Am told the OEM part is discontinued and no aftermarket part available.
Have been told that transmission is the same as the 83-86 Honda Magna 750's, Sabre's and Nighthawks. I cant count on this "claim " when ordering because the salesperson cant verify with paperwork or his microfish that the springs are interchangeable. He said he is just telling me this from experience. I cant go about ordering them and then have the bike opened up on someones work table to find they wont fit.

Called Honda Shop, they said the same thing, except the only sure fire way to tell if one bikes spring will work in another is to visually eyeball both springs to see if they are the same. At this time a Honda salesperson will have a friend ( who has thousands of Honda parts ) to do this for me. I am keeping my fingers crossed !
Its my understanding that clutch springs "in most bikes "are about 3 to 6 in number for the set and that they look like bed springs. Round and curly, just like a valve spring but bigger. However on my bike, I see NO SUCH THING in any exploded parts diagram ! It may have something to do with the design of it being a grand prix non skidding clutch. This keeps the rear wheel from locking down should the driver accidentally go into a lower gear that is too low and causing the rear wheel to skid and lose traction. If you look at pictures

you will see this strange " clutch spring " that Im searching for. IT LOOKS LIKE A WASHER TO ME. Talked to another motorcycle mechanic and he said though the artists rendention of the clutch spring looks like a washer, it actually is coned shaped. The cone shaped thingy acts like a spring. At this point I don't know what to believe, but I do believe my bike does not use the usual coiled spring type springs.

In fact at this time, Im not sure if this is what Im looking for however I am realizing that this part is not available online so maybe it is the elusive part !

update ! Found it , BUT ITS IN EUROPE. May have to order from there is possible ! - http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-vt750c-shadow-750-1983-usa_model791/spring-clutch_22441mb0771/

this part costs 13.50 Euros. Add 27 Euros and that comes out to 40 Euros which is 55 USA dollars for this one part that looks like a big washer !! Then if you use pay pal there is another charge for security. Damned it ! . I'll try for a while to find it in the USA !

interesting update ! - This is a note I received from the place in the Netherlands . Please read ( you will also see captured pictures of correspondence with this company at the end of this gallery ) !!

Dear Mr Shoaf,

Thank you for your support ticket. The requested part is still allowed to order from Honda and we have some on stock. You will have to pay with a credit card if you wish to order the part form us.

Kind regards,

Gert

-----------------

While studying I found out that some bikes of the same model may be made differently if they are in different countries by this warning note I saw on an ebay page.

--------- Note to non-UK buyers: Please be aware that the information provided in this listing relates to UK bikes only. While the clutch kit listed here may fit your bike, please check part compatibility with your bikes manual or a local garage before purchasing.

Now aint that a pisser ! This clutch spring in the UK may in fact NOT fit my bike. I just don't know !!

Bad news. Part Obsolete, unavailable ! ( at least in the USA ) - http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-22441-MB0-771.html

I wrote this fellow who sells Honda Parts in the Netherlands on June 23, 2014 and told him about the unavailability of this Honda part and how Honda salespeople have told me the part is obsolete / discontinued and unavailable. This is his reply -- Subject: Re: Re: need part

Dear Mr Shoaf,

We have 2 parts (22441-MB0-771) laying on the shelf and we can still order them from Honda. Not sure why these others say they can't order it. Perhaps it has something to do with Honda Europe and Honda America.

Kind regards,

Gert
