Near the Ottawa River. These larvae on a trembling aspen leaf, may be in the Genus Nematus. Sawflies are in the same family as wasps and bees (Hymenoptera), and are NOT flies, despite the confusing name (sawflies). When disturbed, sawfly larvae like this, wave their rear ends in the air. Most sawflies feed like these ones, in groups, on the edge of a leaf.
