Snapping Turtle (4 photos)

This small snapper was laying her eggs at the edge of the road a few feet from the lake.
Using her hind legs she dug and carefully lifted out the stones and earth.

Many eggs were layed then covered up and she returned to the lake to laze away the summer.
Her work is done.

Meanwhile a short distance away a larger snapper had made her nest in a heavily gravelled parking lot.

She gently covered her eggs.

Four terrific action images Linda. Well described and tack sharp. The top, smaller one sure has a lot more moss on her shell. ( The "her" is for Cindy.) LOL

A nice series Linda. Great to show the freshly laid eggs. Look at her claws in the first image. No wonder they can dig into the gravel.

Excellent set of shots!! Congratulations. I find these large prehistoric looking turtles, extremely endearing. I worry endlessly that they will be hit by cars as they laboriously work away at digging their nests on roadsides.

Great series Linda. Glad you were able to capture the eggs. Fascinating and well done!
