On a trip to Nashville to give a talk at Vanderbilt University I was taken to this Honky Tonk club in the evening. The band was amazing, and completely undermined all my stereotypes of country music. No maudlin ballads about dead dogs, pickup trucks, or faithless spouses. Just good energetic rockabilly, played with incredible skill and enthusiasm. The guitarist was a 17 year-old prodigy, and the bass player was hilarious.
