Pinking Shears-Shirley
by Shirley Haden

For those non-sewers out there; Pinking shears are scissors used to cut material in a zig-zag cut to prevent raveling. It looks just like the design under the windows.

Great textures and title. The blue sky and cloud reflections add so much.

I remember my sistes using pinking shears when then used to make their own clothes. I had no idea how the term was derived though. Shirley, you shot is really good, great gemetric shapes and clan lines.

There, I corrected my spelling of shears under the photo, but my bad spelling remains in my comment, ha!

No I had no idea why they were called pinking sheers. That's pretty cool, after flower petal's edges. Who'd a thunk! Thanks for that tidbit of knowledge. It's a good day when you learn something knew.

And did you know that pinking shears are called by that name because the shape that they cut (the zig-zag) is the same shape as you get around the edge of pinks. Pinks is the old fashioned name for carnations.

It's a great photo shirley - just my cup of tea and you've picked out the pattern below the windows beautifully. I love the reflection of the sky in the windows too. - yaelle
