The Musee de Cluny (Medieval Museum) is a treasure trove of magnificent artifacts from the Middle Ages.
It houses sculpture, stained glass, and "minor arts" (small objects such as jewelry, ceramics, ivories, and tapestries),
as well as a special room housing the sculpted heads of Old Testament Kings that once adorned the front of Notre Dame Cathedral.
These heads were lopped off by during the French Revolution when they were thought to represent French Kings,
and found in the last century when a new Metro was being excavated.

But for me, the treasure of the Cluny, is the tapestry series, "La Dame a la Licorne" (Lady and the Unicorn) ,
which is a series of 6 magnificent wool and silk "millefleur" tapestries, each perhaps 8 x 10 feet, representing the 5 senses,…
Sight, Hearing ,Touch, Taste, and Smell,
plus a 6th tapestry known as "Mon Seul Desir", (My Only Desire),which is not clearly understood.
These tapestries date from the 1500's.

This image shows the "Mon Seul Desir", which has many interpretations, perhaps dealing with passion, or free will.
The tapestries have been recently cleaned ,repaired and relined, and rehung in a new setting with controlled environment,
to protect them from light damage, as well as that of visitors' breath and foot traffic dust.

And yes,…. they still can be photographed…but with no flash. To see them is one of the best experiences in Paris !
