voracious

Quadra Island

these are tent caterpillars, and happy campers they were too, a writhing mass seemingly in perpetual motion...voracious eaters, they can quickly denude trees...this bunch of wrigglers was spotted on Rebecca Spit

Nice capture and aptly titled, David. It is amazing that something so voracious can survive --- aided by the fact that their primary food source is deciduous, hence a fresh crop of food every spring.

Every so often we have an invasion of these guys. Not pretty what they do to the trees.
