Life's Relentless Progression

Yorkshire, UK, and London, UK

This is a scan of a black and white print I made when I was 18. The two portraits are of my grandfather, when he was 17, and then when he was 70. I took the metronome and the later portrait, and photographed the print of the earlier portrait. I made a triple exposure of the three shots to get them onto one negative, and then printed the resulting shot in my darkroom (which was in the coal cellar). The print sat in an album in my basement, until it was flooded last September (in the 1000 year flood we had in Colorado). A lot of the prints I had saved for nearly forty years suffered water damage, including this one, and I don't know where the negatives are. :(
