I hope you'll forgive this unashamedly personal entry. The book is only published in Greek so it's not a book you'll find easily! It's a collection of writings by my wife's mother about life in her village on the island of Lesbos roughly between the years 1930-1950. She started writing them about 30 years ago for a local magazine and they were collected into this book which was published a year or so ago (just after her 90th birthday). The title refers to when they used to tell the time by other means (the school bell or the whistle at the local olive oil press) and so we searched my archives for a suitable photograph for the cover and found this one. I realise it is flawed technically and if I'd known at the time I would have tried to make it better :-). By the way, I don't know if Greek letters show up correctly on all computers but, for the record, the proper title is "Όταν δεν είχαν ρολόγια" by Βαρβάρα Σκια.
