I was out working on my critique group shots when I heard the "Clang Clang Clang" of the bells on the lift bridge that spans the Erie Canal. Luckily the bridges don't move all that fast and I was able to make it over to the canal and was pleasantly surprised to find not one but two boats. The foreground boat is a tender and the one in the rear is a tugboat. They are owned by the New York State Canal System - which is supported by our NYS Thruway tolls :-( The Erie Canal runs from Buffalo, NY to the Hudson River near Albany, NY and there are sections that have locks as well. It is mostly used for recreation now but in it's early years it was used for transportation of goods.
