Toledo. Sinagoga de Santa Maria la Blanca

Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca
Built in the XIII Century, it retains the Mudeajar characteristics of Toledo. It was erected as a synagogue until the XV Century, when it was turned into a church. It has a hall base with five parallel naves of progressively decreasing heights towards the outside and supported by horseshoe arcades on octagonal pillars. All of this is made of brick, conveniently troweled and whitewashed with capitals featuring plaster moulding.
On the wlls there are spandrels, blind arcades and freizes; the delicate Andalusian style plant motifs can also be admired, being mor modern and originally multi-coloured. In the XVI Century it became a sanctorium and cardinal Silíceo entrusted the architect Alonso Covarrubias with the construction of the three chapels at the head, the central one crowned with a semicircular vault over tubes and the others were covered with sperical vaults

Very striking POV, and I love those sunlit windows. Super detail as well. V.
