Toledo. Puerta del Sol

Watchtower that was probably built in the time of the Taifa kingdom, as indicated by their inner horseshoe arches. It was rebuilt in the fourteenth century in Mudejar style, with the use of typical materials: stones, masonry and brick.
The horseshoe arch is framed in another on a double frieze of arches on the bow appears in the sixteenth century, a relief was added with the emblem of the Cathedral under the moon and the sun (which is named the door). The battlements, the dormers and turrets give military aspect, although its function was already being over triumphal arch defense.

Very Islamic looking architecture to me, although I would never have thought of the arches as horseshoes! Well composed and lit capture, Jose. V.
