Inside the brick bunkhouses at Birkenau. Each partition held a minimum of four people. In the summer the temperatures could reach nearly 30 degrees C and in the winter they could be as low as -20 degrees C. As no blankets were supplied, the thin layers of clothing were not much help against the cold and it was worse if you were on the bottom tier as you were sleeping on a concrete floor.
