Doubting Thomas
10"X12" Private Collection
On Easter Sunday Jesus appeared to the apostles in the Upper Room, but Thomas was absent.
The apostles told Thomas that Jesus appeared to them. Thomas strongly protested and proclaimed,
"Unless I put my finger into the nail marks and my hand into his side, I will not believe."
The next Sunday Jesus appeared again and this time Thomas was present.
Jesus looked at Thomas and said, "Why do you not believe? Come here, put your finger into the nail
marks and your hand into my side and do not disbelieve, but believe."
Thomas did as Jesus requested and when he felt the body and wound marks, he fell to his knees and exclaimed, "My Lord and my God."
Jesus told Thomas, "You believe because you see me. Blessed - holy - are those who do not see me, yet believe."
