This hexagonal table mat was a challenge that was made simple by using Julie Herman's Hex N More ruler and clear instructions in Alkinson Designs Merry-Go-Round pattern (ATK-169). While the ruler I used did not have marking for a 3 1/2" hexagon, it was easy to add masking tape at the appropriate places to overcome this missing size. One thing that was unusual is the backing (see next picture) is made by joining each of the hexagon accent fabrics together and the binding also uses each accent fabric for 1/4 of the distance around the circumference of the hexagon. This was fun to make (and figure out)/ I quilted the mat by stitching-in-the-ditch parallel to each of the three edge directions.
