Interloper

The Common (European) Starling is long known in history, according to Wikipedia. However, it is a relative newcomer to our shores, at least to Oregon. It has become somewhat of a nuisance here, as it is bigger than a lot of our native birds and takes food away from them. It is about the size of our Western Scrub Jay, also a noisy visitor that will eat up our bird feed. Both can be entertaining. This one was photographed in our backyard.

I don't know if we have them here in SoCal or not, I have never seen one. It seems the bigger the bird the more they are the bullies!

Other than maybe eating food small birds would I don't know why people would not like these. They are quite pretty, especially when the light catches them right. And they have more voices than a mocking bird!
