The male (tiercel) is doing the majority of the incubation during the day. Here he's checking that all is safe before taking his place on the eggs.
Note….added June20th….This is in fact the female so it seems at the time I had difficulty telling the two apart. The female has a more scalloped back whereas the male is smaller with a more solid blueish grey.
