Nomada Bee

Coffeepot Lake, Washington

On Rabbitbrush (Ericameria nauseosa). This genus of bees is extremely diverse and therefore a lot of fun to photograph. All of them are cleptoparasites. They lay their eggs in the burrows of Andrena and Halictid bees, where the larvae then feed on the pollen stores collected by the host bee. Nomada do not have pollen collecting hairs but the adults frequent flowers.
