The Gates of the Mountain are a bit easier to see in this shot.

I know one skier climbed up the ridge on the left and skied down into the lift ski area. You might get in trouble doing that these days even though it does not violate their new "no uphill skiing" policy. It is also usually quite rocky on that side of the ridge.

An old guidebook talks about climbing the right ridge around the Gates. I talked to the author , he said he did it with skinny (without metal edges!). He was a mountaineer (Mazama), though. I wonder if he hiked up. Definitely avalanche danger doing that!
